Just a few comments
When I saw danfleonard's comment on It's All Over Now, it reminded me that I went to this show with a friend who'd never listened to the Dead before. He didn't become a Deadhead, but he was very impressed with the show. The song he kept talking about was It's All Over Now. The January '79 tour was epic. This show got the whole thing off to a very good start. I wasn't in the 5th row, but I do remember Jerry stepping up to the mic to sing "Nobody's Fault" and having the mic cut out.

Jerry was PISSED
I was in the 5th row for this show. Jerry started singing Nobody's Fault....first time singing it in a long long time! His microphone cut out after a few words, you can hear it, he didn't stop singing, the mike fucked up. He was furious. He looked over to the side at his roadie, and let me tell you, if looks could kill! Wow, I have never seen such a withering look. He was so mad, they wrapped up the show as quick as they could. Peter, round and round, JB Goode, and goodnight. What damn shame. Magic was happening, but foiled by technology.

It's All Over Now
This is It's All Over Now of all It's All Over Nows!!!! I've listened to his hundreds of times and it still gives me the chills. Has a sense of wickedness in Jerry's tone. Crowd gets into it too. Such a Spectrum sounding show.

Whoever taped this had way too itchy a pause button finger, and the treble needs to be cut a bit, but it's a sweet show!

The Rescheduled/Blizzard Show in Philly
Really Nice AUD, Thanks Charlie & T. I remember We were ON OUR WAY to the show on 11/27 from CNJ and luckily heard on the radio (gosh kids we had no IM way of finding these things out..WNEW was our Info source!) the show was cancelled going to be rescheduled..laryngitis..ahh.yeah..anyway...The Bertha and No Body's Fault were highlites for me..Weir was in learning slide mode...Jerry was straining a bit but no big, made him play better I think...anyway...I REALLY remember walking out into a snow that turned into a BLIZZARD..we were like the only vehicle besides plows and salters on the Turnpike..took like 5-6 HOURS to get home at @ 15 mph...and I really wanted to just stay in Philly..but my 2 pals happened to bring a couple of ah..young girls along..and if they didn't get home...there was going to be trouble deep..(I'm sure getting in @ 6am didn't help)..anyway..my first post here...just felt like sharing..Aloha Mark (if this story is familiar to you..email me)

A Big Ol Warm Fuzzy One
Just days after closing Winterland, Grateful Dead traveled to Philadelphia to perform an unscheduled show to make up for the postponed Spectrum show of November 78 with this little fuzzy one. Jerry's vocals are obviously strained here but man his heart is in it and that's what wins the day for me. The following week on 1/12/79 Grateful Dead would once again play The Spectrum and Jerry's voice would still be struggling. I loved both of those shows for different reasons. Two of my favorite 79 attended shows.

Maybe a 3 but I'll give it a 4
The Spectrum wasn't the best place to pull aud's from but the taper did a pretty good job. Jerry was STILL struggling to get his voice back and there are more than the normal amount of PA problems at this show. Still, the performance itself is pretty good and a nice set list make this worth it. Charlie Miller also did a good job of transferring this.

less than average
Jerry's voice is really off, and Bobby's slide playing is painful to listen to. Jerry's energy is high on his solos, which results in a very nice Black Peter, but doesn't really make up for the generally weak 79 performance. The sound is OK after sound issues are resolved during Sugaree, but this is an AUD, so it's less than crisp. But hey, it's still 79, Jerry's voice is better than it is in the 80s and late 90s, and the energy is there. So it gets three stars, although it's more like 2.5.

Noodling Jerry
Jerry's voice was cracking but he was having the noodles all night, great guitar playing from the onset, there are flaws such as the PA difficulties and needed adjustments during Sugaree, once jer came through in the PA we were all happier campers. First Set: Great song selection despite tolerating Bobby's praticing the slide, gotta love that It Must Of Been The Roses and Brown eyed Women! The closer is spliced but well played. Second Set as Jers voice worsens his guitar playing makes up for, nice transition from Drumz to a short space, post drums truckn' was well received.Nobody's Fault was EEEERRRY to say the least. I beleive the snow was falling as we exited the Spectrum that evening Recording for AUD in 79' is 4 Performance is 4

Eek..Bob's Slide
OK, so I love 'em all...hugely appreciate that the entire band are talented unique players and generally subscribe to the "if you've got nothing good to say..." ethic. But if you are ever in the mood to hear some truly horrific slide playing...check out this Sugaree...poor Jerry is playing some great stuff and it is clashing with some seriously out of tune slide.

all things considered, pretty nice.
not a bad crowd tape for the specturm in '79 Anybody know what the PA setup would have been? Funny how we take very careful notes of what mics but hardly ever the PA. Don't get me wrong this isn't a great show but there is some cool stuff here like Jerry's loose and playful noodles throughout the Eyes. I'm also a fan of the the brown eyed women. The quality of this show suffers a little post-drums when Jerry's voice is almost absent from an otherwise interesting Nobody's fault. It comes back strong by the second line of Black Peter which seems quite heart-felt (wasn't it always?). Bobby is HOWLING by the encore. I'm guessing everybody had a pretty good time.
